QUESTIONS ABOUT TRAVEL eSIMs
What is an eSIM?
An eSIM is a SIM card built into your phone rather than a chip you slot in. You install a prepaid data plan onto it by scanning a QR code, which takes about a minute, and nothing arrives in the post.
How is an eSIM different from a SIM card?
There is nothing to collect and nothing to swap. A local SIM card means finding a shop abroad, showing a passport and taking your own SIM out; an eSIM is a profile you install before you leave, and your physical SIM stays in the phone the whole time.
Does my phone work with an Atli eSIM?
Any eSIM-compatible phone that is not carrier-locked: iPhone XS and newer, Google Pixel 3 and newer, Samsung Galaxy S20 and newer, plus recent Motorola, Huawei, Oppo and Xiaomi models. Dial *#06# — if an EID number appears, your phone supports eSIM.
Do I have to remove my physical SIM?
No. An Atli eSIM is a second line that sits alongside the SIM already in your phone. You set the Atli line as your data line and leave your home line for calls and SMS, so nothing is taken out and nothing is lost.
How do I buy an Atli eSIM?
Two ways, the same plans at the same prices: buy it here on the site, or ask for it in Telegram or WhatsApp. Pick a destination, choose how much prepaid data you want and for how long, and pay. About a minute, start to finish.
Do I need an app or an account?
No. There is no travel eSIM app to download and no account to create — checkout takes an email address and nothing else. You can sign in with a social account if you would rather have one, but it is never required to buy.
Where do I see prices?
On every destination page, as the full list of plans rather than one figure: the data allowance, how many days it runs for, and the price of each. You see the whole amount before paying — nothing is added at checkout.
Which currency will I be charged in?
Whichever of eleven currencies you pick at the top of the page — USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, KRW, SGD, HKD, TWD, AUD, CAD or VND. Every price on the site is written in it, and checkout opens on the same figures rather than converting them again.
Is there a monthly charge or a subscription?
No. Every plan is prepaid and finite: you buy an amount of data for a number of days, and that is the end of it. There is no monthly charge, no renewal and no card left on file to forget about.
Do I pay roaming fees on top?
No. International roaming charges from your home carrier do not apply to data used on the Atli line, because the data runs on a local partner network rather than through your own operator. What you paid before you left is what the trip costs.
When should I install my eSIM?
Before you travel, while you still have Wi-Fi — then leave the line switched off until you land. Installing the eSIM profile needs an internet connection; using the data plan abroad does not.
How do I switch it on when I land?
Turn the Atli line on under Settings → Mobile data. It connects to a local 4G/5G partner network, usually within a minute of landing. Nothing to collect at the airport and no shop to find.
Do I have to turn on data roaming?
Yes, and only for the Atli line. That switch is what lets the eSIM use a local partner network, and it costs nothing extra — the plan is already paid for. Leave data roaming off for your home line and your own operator cannot charge you.
Do I keep my own number and WhatsApp?
Yes. Your physical SIM stays in the phone, so your usual number keeps receiving calls and SMS. WhatsApp, Telegram and iMessage stay signed in with the same number and the same conversations — they travel over data, so they work over the Atli line.
Can I make calls and send texts on the Atli line?
Atli sells data plans, so the Atli line carries internet rather than carrier minutes. Calls and messages go through WhatsApp, Telegram, FaceTime or Zoom over that data, and your own number stays reachable for ordinary calls and SMS on your physical SIM.
How long does a plan last?
You choose: plans run from a few days to a month, and each one states its own length beside its data allowance and price. Pick the one that matches the trip rather than a plan that renews around it.
What happens when my data runs out?
The connection stops rather than continuing at a price you never agreed to — there are no overage charges and no bill afterwards. Top up the same eSIM on the site or in the chat and carry on, without installing a new profile.
Can one eSIM cover several countries?
Yes. A regional eSIM plan — Europe, Asia, Southeast Asia, North America, Latin America, the Middle East, Africa or Global — covers every country in the bundle on a single eSIM, so the data keeps running when you cross a border.
Can I share my data with another device?
Yes. Turn on your phone's personal hotspot and a laptop, tablet or second phone uses the same data plan, exactly as it would at home. No second eSIM and no extra charge.
What speed will I get?
Whatever the local partner network gives a local phone: 5G where it is available and 4G/LTE everywhere else. Your data is not routed back through your home country first, so it is not a slow lane — in thin coverage speeds drop the way they would for anyone standing beside you.
