Turkey is one destination where arranging your data before departure is genuinely time-sensitive. Turkey’s telecommunications authority has ordered access blocked from inside the country to several international eSIM websites and apps. Buying your plan before you land avoids relying on services that may be unreachable from a Turkish connection.
Atli is data-only. It does not provide a Turkish phone number, SMS or cellular voice calls. WhatsApp, Telegram, iMessage, FaceTime, maps and translation apps work through the data connection.
Atli eSIM plans for Turkey
Fixed-data plans:
| Data | Validity | Atli price | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 GB | 7 days | $3.99 | A short stop or a layover |
| 3 GB | 30 days | $5.99 | About a week of maps and messaging |
| 5 GB | 30 days | $6.99 | One to two weeks |
| 10 GB | 30 days | $11.99 | Longer trips with regular photo sharing |
| 20 GB | 30 days | $19.99 | Remote work, streaming or frequent hotspot use |
Unlimited plans:
| Validity | Atli price |
|---|---|
| 5 days | $13.99 |
| 7 days | $19.99 |
| 10 days | $25.99 |
| 15 days | $35.99 |
| 20 days | $45.99 |
| 25 days | $55.99 |
| 30 days | $64.99 |
These prices were checked in August 2026. Plans and prices can change.
Two steps in that first table are worth reading closely. The 1 GB plan costs $3.99 and the 3 GB plan costs $5.99, so two dollars buys three times the data and more than four times the validity. Then 5 GB costs $6.99, one dollar more than 3 GB. Unless your whole trip is a layover, start at 5 GB.
The unlimited plans are priced for heavy use and not much else. Thirty days of unlimited is $64.99, which is more than three 20 GB plans. Buy it if you intend to hotspot a laptop for a fortnight in Kaş, not because it sounds safer.
For a closer estimate, see how much data a trip really uses. If you plan to work off the phone, the hotspot guide covers what tethering does to a plan.
What network Atli uses in Turkey
Atli has one Turkish partner network: Türk Telekom on 2G, 3G, LTE and 5G.
Atli spells it Turk Telecom. The company writes its own name Türk Telekom, and it is the same operator.
5G is on the list, which is not true of every destination Atli covers. Mexico, for instance, is LTE at best. What the list describes is the access a visiting eSIM is granted, not a coverage map, so read it as the ceiling rather than the floor. LTE is what you will spend most of your time on.
Turkcell and Vodafone Türkiye are the country’s other two large operators and neither is an Atli partner network. If you have read that an Atli eSIM connects to Turkcell, that is wrong. Your phone will attach to Türk Telekom.
One partner also means no fallback. In the UK Atli has three networks and a congested one can be swapped for another. Here there is one, and when it is busy you wait.
Arrange your data before you arrive
Turkey is the one destination in this series where the timing of the purchase carries real weight.
In July 2025 Turkey’s regulator, the BTK, ordered access blocked to the websites and apps of a set of international eSIM sellers, enforced from inside the country. The blocks have been extended since. What gets blocked is the shop, which you can only reach over a Turkish connection you do not yet have.
Atli is not on that list, and the shape of the shop helps: you buy in a WhatsApp or Telegram chat rather than on a storefront. That is not immunity. Turkey restricted access to the big messaging and social platforms for a day or two at a time during unrest in March and September 2025, and a chat is still an app on a network somebody else controls.
So buy the plan at home, install the profile at home, and buy enough data for the whole trip rather than counting on a top-up you may not be able to reach. This is the standing advice everywhere. Turkey is where ignoring it costs you.
See activate before you fly for what to do at home and what to leave until arrival.
Turkey-only plan or Europe regional plan?
Turkey is one of the 34 countries on Atli’s Europe regional plan. That makes the comparison worth running, and it resolves faster than it does for most destinations.
Fixed-data plans:
| Plan | Turkey only | Europe |
|---|---|---|
| 1 GB / 7 days | $3.99 | $4.99 |
| 3 GB / 30 days | $5.99 | $11.99 |
| 5 GB / 30 days | $6.99 | $18.99 |
| 10 GB / 30 days | $11.99 | $32.99 |
| 20 GB / 30 days | $19.99 | $36.99 |
The Turkey plan wins every row, and the margin grows with the plan. At 3 GB the regional plan is double. At 10 GB it is $21 more for the same gigabytes. If your trip stays inside Turkey and you buy by the gigabyte, this is not a close decision.
Unlimited plans, where the gap almost closes:
| Validity | Turkey only | Europe |
|---|---|---|
| 5 days | $13.99 | $15.99 |
| 7 days | $19.99 | $19.99 |
| 10 days | $25.99 | $26.99 |
| 15 days | $35.99 | $37.99 |
| 20 days | $45.99 | $48.99 |
| 25 days | $55.99 | $59.99 |
| 30 days | $64.99 | $70.99 |
At seven days the two cost exactly the same. Everywhere else the Turkey plan is ahead, but only by a dollar at ten days and six at thirty.
That difference is small enough to change the answer for anyone crossing a border. A ferry to a Greek island, or a long layover in Frankfurt on the way home: both sit inside the Europe plan, and on an unlimited plan the extra 33 countries cost you between nothing and six dollars. Buying by the gigabyte, the same reasoning does not survive the price gap.
See the regional eSIM guide if your itinerary crosses several countries.
Getting around Turkey
Istanbul runs on the Istanbulkart. One stored-value card covers the metro, trams, funiculars, city buses and the Bosphorus ferries, and you buy and top it up at machines in the stations with cash. None of that needs a phone. What data buys you is knowing which of Yenikapı’s exits you want and which ferry pier is the one on your ticket.
Intercity travel is where a connection earns its price. Long-distance buses cover the country properly and the operators sell online, as does the high-speed rail between Istanbul, Ankara and Konya. Domestic flights are frequent and often cheaper than the equivalent bus. All of it wants a working connection at the moment you book, not for the journey itself.
Cappadocia balloon flights are cancelled for wind more often than visitors expect, and the cancellation reaches you by message at around five in the morning. That is a reason to have the phone online overnight rather than on airport WiFi.
Away from the main corridors, treat coverage as an open question. A network list describes which network the eSIM attaches to and which technologies that network carries. It says nothing about geography, and nothing about a road across the Anatolian plateau, a valley walk between Göreme and Çavuşin, or the stretch of coast between two small harbours on the Lycian Way. Download offline maps and your accommodation address before you leave a town.

If you are choosing where to stay in Istanbul, compare the exact map pin against the nearest tram or metro stop on Booking.com. The old city and Beyoğlu are twenty minutes apart on paper and an hour apart in traffic.

Keep your normal SIM for your phone number
On a compatible dual-SIM phone, your home SIM and Atli eSIM can have separate jobs: your own number stays on your home SIM for calls and texts, and mobile data in Turkey comes from your Atli eSIM.
On a dual-SIM phone, set Atli as the cellular-data line and keep your primary SIM active for calls and texts. Turn off data roaming on your primary SIM to avoid unintended roaming data charges. If your carrier supports roaming, verification texts can still arrive on your primary SIM.
Read the dual-SIM travel guide for the settings to check before departure.
Travel eSIM or local Turkish SIM?
A travel eSIM is convenient when you want data arranged before arrival, and in Turkey it also means you are not buying anything from a Turkish connection. A local product may suit a longer stay or anyone who needs a Turkish number.
Türk Telekom, Turkcell and Vodafone Türkiye all sell prepaid tourist packages, with counters at the airports and shops in every city. Buying one requires your passport, the packages are priced for visitors rather than residents, and the terms change. Those are separate local products rather than services supplied by Atli, so check the current offer before you buy.
One thing to know if you are staying a long time. Turkey registers mobile handsets by IMEI, and a phone brought in from abroad can be used for 120 days before it has to be registered, according to the BTK’s own consumer guidance and the government’s device registration service. No Atli Turkey plan runs longer than 30 days, so a normal trip does not come near the limit. If you are staying long enough for it to matter, read the official rules rather than a travel blog, this one included.

How to set up an Atli eSIM for Turkey
Install the eSIM at home before you travel, while you still have reliable WiFi. Do not wait until you arrive: airport WiFi may be slow, require a login or fail when you need it, and in Turkey the seller’s site may not be reachable at all. Check first that your phone supports eSIM and is carrier-unlocked.
Installing the eSIM does not start the plan. It starts when your phone first connects to a network at the destination. You have up to 30 days after purchase to make that first connection; after that, the plan starts automatically. Buy within a month of departure and you get the full validity you paid for.
After arrival:
- Turn on the Atli eSIM.
- Select Atli as the cellular-data line.
- Turn on data roaming for that line.
- Leave your home SIM off for mobile data if you want to avoid home-carrier roaming charges.
Keep the Atli eSIM installed after the data plan expires. You need only this one eSIM profile: if you buy another plan later, it is added to the same eSIM automatically. There is nothing new to install. Data plans expire; the eSIM itself stays on your phone. Do not delete its profile.
