Taiwan’s transit is fast and tightly integrated, from the High Speed Rail along the west coast to Taipei’s metro lines and city buses. Tracking real-time bus arrivals, navigating night markets, and coordinating over LINE are the primary reasons visitors need active mobile data.
Atli is data-only. It does not provide a Taiwanese phone number, SMS or cellular voice calls. WhatsApp, LINE, Telegram, iMessage, FaceTime, maps and transport apps work through the data connection.
Atli eSIM plans for Taiwan
| Data | Validity | Atli price | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 GB | 7 days | $4.99 | A layover or a weekend stop |
| 3 GB | 30 days | $7.99 | About a week around Taipei |
| 5 GB | 30 days | $10.99 | One to two weeks around the island |
| 10 GB | 30 days | $18.99 | Longer trips with regular photo sharing |
| 20 GB | 30 days | $29.99 | Remote work, streaming or frequent hotspot use |
| Unlimited | 5 days | $16.99 | A short trip with heavy data use |
| Unlimited | 30 days | $67.99 | A month without tracking each gigabyte |
These prices were checked in August 2026. Plans and prices can change.
Three gigabytes covers about a week of maps, train times and messaging. Taiwan is generous with free WiFi in metro stations, convenience stores and cafes, which takes some pressure off the plan. Choose 5 GB if you post photos most days, and 20 GB or unlimited if you will tether a laptop. At 1 GB the Asia regional plan costs less than the Taiwan one.

What network Atli uses in Taiwan
Atli has one Taiwanese partner network: Taiwan Mobile on LTE and 5G.
Two things follow from that. There is no second carrier for the eSIM to fall back on when the first is congested, unlike Germany or Norway where Atli has two. And there is no 2G and no 3G here, so LTE is the floor rather than a fallback below it.
Chunghwa Telecom and Far EasTone are Taiwan’s other large operators, and neither is an Atli partner network.
Getting around Taipei and the island
The Taiwan High Speed Rail runs the west-coast line between Taipei, Taichung, Tainan and Kaohsiung, with English booking and an app. Book ahead at holiday periods and load the ticket before you reach the platform.
Taipei’s MRT is the part where data earns its keep, not for the route but for the exit. Stations are large and exits are numbered, and picking the wrong one puts you on the wrong side of a wide road. EasyCard handles the MRT, buses and convenience stores from a stored balance, so it keeps working when the signal does not.
The east coast and the mountains are where a network list stops being useful. It describes which network the eSIM attaches to and which technologies that network carries. It says nothing about geography, and nothing about what happens in the Taroko gorge, on the Suhua highway or on a mountain road above Alishan. Download offline maps and your accommodation details before you leave the west-coast corridor.

If you are choosing where to stay in Taipei, compare the exact map pin with the nearest MRT station on Booking.com. The city is walkable, but the gap between a station and an address can still be a humid fifteen minutes.
Keep your normal SIM for your phone number
On a compatible dual-SIM phone, your home SIM and Atli eSIM can have separate jobs: your own number stays on your home SIM for calls and texts, and mobile data in Taiwan comes from your Atli eSIM.
On a dual-SIM phone, set Atli as the cellular-data line and keep your primary SIM active for calls and texts. Turn off data roaming on your primary SIM to avoid unintended roaming data charges. If your carrier supports roaming, verification texts can still arrive on your primary SIM.
Read the dual-SIM travel guide for the settings to check before departure.
Taiwan-only plan or Asia regional plan?
Worth two minutes of arithmetic, because the answer flips at the bottom of the range rather than the top:
| Plan | Taiwan only | Asia |
|---|---|---|
| 1 GB / 7 days | $4.99 | $3.99 |
| 3 GB / 30 days | $7.99 | $8.99 |
| 5 GB / 30 days | $10.99 | $17.99 |
| 10 GB / 30 days | $18.99 | $30.99 |
| 20 GB / 30 days | $29.99 | $40.99 |
At the smallest size the regional plan is the better buy: a dollar less than the Taiwan plan, and valid in ten places rather than one. If you are stopping over for a few days with light usage, there is no reason to take the local plan.
From 3 GB upward that reverses, and it widens fast. At 5 GB the Taiwan plan is seven dollars cheaper, and at 10 GB it is twelve. For a normal week or two on the island, buy local.
The regional plan covers Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Macau, South Korea, Sri Lanka and Taiwan. That list is the reason it earns its price on a multi-stop East Asia trip: Taipei with Tokyo, Seoul or Hong Kong stays on one plan.
See the regional eSIM guide if your itinerary crosses several countries.
Travel eSIM or local Taiwanese SIM?
A travel eSIM is convenient when you want data arranged before arrival. A local product may suit a longer stay, heavy data use or anyone who needs a Taiwanese number.
Taiwan Mobile sells prepaid service directly, as do Chunghwa Telecom and Far EasTone. Airport counters sell tourist SIMs too, though they keep their own hours and a late arrival can find them closed. Those are separate local products rather than services supplied by Atli, and their terms and identification requirements change, so check the current offer before buying.

How to set up an Atli eSIM for Taiwan
Install the eSIM at home before you travel, while you still have reliable WiFi. Do not wait until you arrive: airport WiFi may be slow, require a login or fail when you need it. Check first that your phone supports eSIM and is carrier-unlocked.
Installing the eSIM does not start the plan. It starts when your phone first connects to a network at the destination. You have up to 30 days after purchase to make that first connection; after that, the plan starts automatically.
After arrival:
- Turn on the Atli eSIM.
- Select Atli as the cellular-data line.
- Turn on data roaming for that line.
- Leave your home SIM off for mobile data if you want to avoid home-carrier roaming charges.
Keep the Atli eSIM installed after the data plan expires. You need only this one eSIM profile: if you buy another plan later, it is added to the same eSIM automatically. There is nothing new to install. Data plans expire; the eSIM itself stays on your phone. Do not delete its profile.
