eSIM for the Philippines in 2026: Globe 5G from $3.99

Traveling through the Philippines means coordinating domestic island hops with airline apps for flight updates and ferry portals like Barkota for inter-island schedules. In Manila and Cebu, Grab also lets you see the route and fare in the app before pickup.

Atli is a data-only travel eSIM. It does not provide a Philippine (+63) phone number, SMS or cellular voice calls. Which connectivity option fits your Philippines trip?

When Atli is not the right choice:

• You need a Philippine phone number. Some provincial ferry offices, small guesthouses and local delivery riders still coordinate by domestic call or SMS rather than WhatsApp, Messenger or Grab in-app chat. Atli is data-only and cannot dial +63 numbers or receive local SMS registration codes.
• Your destination relies on Smart. Globe and Smart both cover the main tourist corridors, but neither wins every beach or valley. If your resort or dive shop in Palawan, Siargao or Camiguin specifically tells guests to bring a Smart SIM, an Atli eSIM will not help because it attaches only to Globe.
• You are staying longer than a month or using heavy data on a budget. Once you complete Philippine SIM registration, local prepaid promos from Smart, Globe and DITO offer more gigabytes per dollar for long stays, provided you extend your tourist SIM registration when you extend your visa.

Three dollars more than the 1 GB plan buys 3 GB and thirty days instead of seven, which suits most trips better. The 1 GB plan still makes sense for a long weekend in Manila with hotel WiFi for everything else.

Per day, unlimited falls from $3.40 at five days to $2.57 at thirty. Past a fortnight, every extra five days costs a flat twelve dollars.

If you are staying a month and not working online, fixed data is much cheaper. The 20 GB plan for thirty days costs $28.99, which is well under half the unlimited price.

How Atli prices compare with Globe, Smart and DITO

Local Philippine prepaid data is inexpensive if you are willing to complete mandatory SIM registration. The table below compares Atli’s key tiers with official tourist and local prepaid options checked in October 2026 (using an indicative rate of PHP 57 to 58 per $1 USD):

Watch the fine print on both “unlimited” and starter bundles:

• Starter-pack headline totals: DITO’s PHP 39 Starter Pack advertises “up to 25 GB,” but its official promo mechanics grant 3 GB of regular data (plus 3 GB of 5G data in selected cities) for 5 days upon activation and 4 GB for 3 days when you log into the DITO app. The remaining 15 GB is unlocked across up to twelve separate paid Level-Up Pack subscriptions.
• “Unli 5G” vs 4G fallback on local SIMs: Smart’s popular “Unli 5G” reload promos provide unlimited data only while your phone is connected to an active 5G tower. When your signal drops to 4G/LTE outside city centers, your usage draws from a separate, finite non-5G data allocation.
• Atli unlimited plans and hotspot: Atli plans support personal hotspot without a separate fee. On unlimited plans, local operator fair-use speed management can apply during sustained heavy use, so check the plan terms in the chat if you intend to stream video or tether a laptop all day.

What network Atli uses in the Philippines

Atli has one Philippine partner network: Globe on 2G, 3G, LTE and 5G.

Atli’s networks in Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam stop at LTE, while Globe here, like AIS in Thailand, carries 5G.

Smart and DITO, the country’s other mobile operators, are not among Atli’s partner networks. Your phone on Atli will attach only to Globe and will not switch to Smart if Globe has no signal.

In independent testing from Opensignal’s Philippines Mobile Network Experience report (July 2026, covering April to June 2026) and its late-2025 report, the three Philippine operators split strengths rather than one carrier winning everywhere. Globe led overall geographic Coverage Experience and took first place outright for Consistent Quality (58.9%) in mid-2026. Smart led latency-sensitive categories including games and voice apps, while DITO won overall download speed and reliability where its 4G and 5G network is built out.

A network list is not a coverage map. It says which network your phone joins and which technologies that network carries, and nothing about where you happen to be standing. In an archipelago of more than seven thousand islands, that distinction matters more than usual. Metro Manila, Metro Cebu, Boracay and the main town centers of El Nido, Coron, Panglao and General Luna (Siargao) are well served by LTE and urban 5G. Once you head to outer coves or inland valleys, one beach may favor Globe while the next favors Smart. The middle of the Coron to El Nido ferry crossing has no reliable signal on any carrier, and neither does most of a bangka day trip. Philippines plan or Southeast Asia regional plan?

The Southeast Asia regional plan covers Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Brunei are not on it, so a Manila to Siem Reap itinerary is not one regional plan.

The local plan is cheaper through the middle of the range, the two match at 20 GB, and at thirty days of unlimited the regional plan is cheaper. Buy the local plan unless you are staying a full month on unlimited, need 20 GB across more than one covered country, or continue your route to another destination on the regional plan.

Getting around the islands and where the data goes

Domestic flights are how most people move between islands, and the airline apps are where your data goes first. Cebu Pacific, Philippine Airlines and AirSWIFT all expect you online for check-in, and fares and schedules change often enough to check them on the day.

Ferries are the other half. Between El Nido and Coron the fast boats take roughly 3.5 to 4 hours, and sailings get cancelled in rough weather from July to September. In cities, Grab is the default for getting around and needs a live connection to work at all. Outside them, tricycle and jeepney fares are cash and negotiation, and no app helps.

Keep your normal SIM for your phone number

Atli supplies data. Your own SIM keeps supplying your number: mobile data comes from the Atli eSIM, and your own number stays on your home SIM for calls and texts.

On a dual-SIM phone, set Atli as the cellular-data line and keep your primary SIM active for calls and texts. Turn off data roaming on your primary SIM to avoid unintended roaming data charges. If your carrier supports roaming, verification texts can still arrive on your primary SIM.

Local Philippine SIM registration and where to buy

If you decide to buy a local Globe, Smart or DITO SIM instead of a travel eSIM, Philippine law requires identity registration before the SIM will activate.

Under Republic Act No. 11934 (the SIM Registration Act), Section 5(e)(1), foreign nationals visiting as tourists must register through the operator’s official portal (Globe, Smart or DITO) and submit:

1. Passport (photo of the bio-page and a live selfie).
2. Proof of address in the Philippines (a hotel booking, resort reservation or host address).
3. Return or onward ticket showing the date and time of departure from the Philippines.

The 30-day tourist validity cap: By statute, any local Philippine SIM or eSIM registered by a foreign tourist is valid temporarily for 30 days and automatically deactivates when that period expires. If you extend your stay, you must submit an approved Bureau of Immigration visa extension to the carrier to extend the SIM’s validity. Foreign nationals holding long-term work, student or resident visas register with their ACR I-Card and are not subject to the 30-day tourist cap.

Why foreign-issued travel eSIMs differ: Republic Act No. 11934 regulates SIMs sold and activated by Philippine Public Telecommunications Entities (PTEs) on their domestic subscriber registers. Because an Atli plan is a foreign-issued data roaming eSIM rather than a locally issued Philippine SIM with a +63 number, you do not submit passport, hotel or return-ticket documents to a Philippine carrier portal to connect.

Where visitors can buy a local SIM:

• Airport arrival counters (NAIA Terminals 1 and 3 in Manila, Mactan-Cebu, Clark): Convenient right after baggage claim, and counter staff often assist with the registration form. The trade-off is price and queues: airport booths typically stock higher-priced tourist bundles (around PHP 500 to PHP 1,750+) rather than bare PHP 99 SIMs, and lines form quickly when wide-body flights land together.
• Official carrier stores and city retailers: Globe Stores, Smart Stores, mall kiosks and convenience stores (such as 7-Eleven or Uncle John’s) in town sell standard prepaid SIM packs for PHP 39 to PHP 99. You register the SIM yourself on WiFi before loading a data promo in the carrier’s app.
• Official operator apps and web stores: You can buy a local digital eSIM from the GlobeOne app or the Smart Online Store before or after landing, though the line remains inactive until you complete the same 30-day tourist SIM registration portal.

How to buy and set up an Atli eSIM for the Philippines

1. Check that your phone supports eSIM and is carrier-unlocked. Dial *#06# to confirm an EID number appears, and verify in your phone settings that there are no SIM restrictions.
